Lisa Sillaway is an established writer who found success as a journalist, online content producer and advertising copywriter before returning to her first love, the theatre, when she began writing her first play in December 2013. As a playwright she focuses on pieces that echo the lives of the women of her generation and, she hopes, leave audiences with something to contemplate or reconsider while she loves to experiment with the use of music and silence in her work. Finding success quickly, Sillaway traveled in 2014 to see her work The Peacock's War on the Arena Stage in Washington, DC. The piece won a competition hosted in conjunction with the National Civil War Project. Her play, blank, had a reading at London’s Hen & Chickens Theatre during Camden Fringe the summer of 2015, and her drama f*sh debuted in an award-winning run at the Crown Uptown in her hometown of Wichita in 2015. Her monologue Dog Shit was a part of “Grit” at the Royal Court Theatre, also in 2016. Most recently, she directed her Revolutionary War play Unanchored in London at the Bread & Roses Theatre and again in Wichita with the Guinea Pig Lab in 2018. In addition, Unanchored was selected for the 2016 Fall Edition of the Stage It Live! ATL Playwright’s Audience Choice Competition at Mark SQuared Studios Orange Box Theater in Atlanta. In addition to several other play readings around the Midwest, Sillaway is currently workshopping a drama, The 110, that is slated to travel to London in 2020. Sillaway is the founder and Artistic Director of the Guinea Pig Lab, a theatre dedicated to producing the work of Kansas playwrights and serves on several other boards for new writing in her home state.
